Yesterday I turned 41. Taking a while to get used to the fact that I am in my 40’s now. Eek. But I am embracing it slowly but surely. And I hear the 40’s are your best decade. I can take comfort in the fact that I don’t look my age.
I didn’t make any big plans for my birthday. No party, no cake, no dinner at a fancy restaurant. What I decided to do was do a mini photo shoot. A few months ago, I ordered a t-shirt from Zo!, keyboardist from The Foreign Exchange. I told him I would do a mini shoot. In order to do that, everything had to be right, hair, make up, etc. I was going to do it when I got my hair braided. But that didn’t pan out. I ended up cutting my hair and decided to do the shoot for my birthday. Normally for my birthday, I always treat myself to a manicure and pedicure, eyebrow threading (or wax) and get my hair done. I asked Sia if she could do my make up and asked my cousin to take my photos.
Let me tell you, Sia hooked me up! She had me looking like a movie star. My only concern was that the forecast was 96 degrees and I was praying my make up would stay on and my lashes didn’t fall off.
We ended up at Tanner Springs Park. I’ve shot a few sessions here. But it was 3 and the sun was high and there was hardly any shade. I like the steel beam wall they have there because of the color and texture. We were able to get a few shots in by the wall. I changed clothes (thank goodness my cousin has tinted windows) and we found a small court yard between some condos across from the park.
I came home to edit the photos to post on social media. (working on my birthday, imagine that). I tagged Zo in a post and said the photos were dope. If you want to order your own t-shirt, you can order them here. I am going to get the gray v-neck and maybe the red v-neck.
Here are a few from the mini shoot.
