Saeeda Wright. Remember that name. The people of Portland has known of her talent for the last few years but within the next month the country and beyond will know who this power house vocalist will be. Having already traveled with Liv Warfield the last year performing on Jimmy Fallon, Essencefest and other venues, Saeeda will be joining Prince for his upcomng “Hit & Run” tour along with Portland native Ashley Seamster. A good look for the city of Roses.
But before leaving for rehearsals, Stumptown Records presented Saeeda’s “For the Love of Music”. Opening for her were Eddie Wright, Ericka Warren, and Michal Angela performing a song a piece to warm up the crowd. Saeeda arrived and was joined by Alonzo Chadwick. She graced the stage singing covers and original songs ranging from funk, jazz, r&b and soul. The crowd was rocking, swaying, dancing and singing along with her. Later on horn player Max Ribner accompanied Saeeda to perform a few songs from his cd. Saeeda was backed by a killer band featuring drummer Brian Foxworth, Errick Lewis on bass, Zack Poelwijk on keys and Alex Milsted on keys and guitar. And Shawtina Scott kept everyone in stitches as hostess of the evening.
It was a great turnout at Jimmy Maks and it was great to see people supporting our local artists and soul music.
